My Schwinn Cycle Certification Experience

Just yesterday, I told my boyfriend I didn’t know how or when I became the person I am today. I used to have ZERO interest in fitness, I drank coke for breakfast, and hit up McDonald’s multiple times per week. I was skinny but so unhealthy. And I was so shy and socially awkward that I was even too afraid to call and order pizza or ask the movie store if the new hot summer hit was available for rental.

So much great information packed into this one day!

Somehow, all of that changed. And today I added yet another fitness certification to my collection ¬†— today I because a Schwinn Indoor Cycle Coach.

Honestly, I’ve only taken a cycle/spin class a few times. And that’s mostly because when I did try it, my butt was sore for a week, so I was afraid to try it again! Apparently they make padded shorts for that, but I still don’t own a pair. Interestingly enough, I completed my nine hour training today that included two bike rides and my booty didn’t even fall off! Maybe it had something to do with learning how to properly adjust the positioning of my bike… something instructors never taught me before.

So the day started with a LOT of learning. Learning about the parts of the bike, how to do a Quick Fit and a Performance Fit for class participants, and a little hands on practice adjusting the bike. Apparently I’ve been working out too much, because I turned the resistance knob one too many times and broke my partner’s bike. Oops.

The bike I accidentally Hulk-smashed. The pieces that fell out of it are sitting on the seat, haha. Oops, sorry Life Time Fitness!

Getting my learn on from Master Trainer Skip Jennings

After the bike breaking incident, we learned more and more and more about bikes and cycling and class design. Aahh! So much to take in, but it was all SO informative! Seriously, there wasn’t a moment in this class where I felt like my time was wasted.

We ended the morning session with a one hour cycle class. I was really nervous about it. As I said, I hadn’t really had the best experiences with cycling in the past because it just hurt my butt so bad! And I remember my legs being really sore as well, which is something I didn’t need to happen because I am teaching INSANITY tomorrow morning. In the end, it was a GREAT workout and I really enjoyed it! The hour seemed to go by super fast, probably because of the music and the great coaching from Skip. ūüėČ

Then…lunch happened. All you see in this picture was gone in less than 15 minutes. And that included some texting while chewing bites of food.

I regret nothing.

We finished up the day talking about how to make our classes truly an enjoyable experience for our participants, and I really learned a lot of things that I can incorporate into all of my fitness classes. Motivation, ways to connect with others, music ideas to use. Ohhhh, music is truly my favorite part of a workout. One song can strongly affect my level of motivation, even when I feel like I have no energy left. This remix of “Run This Town” was one we listened to during our second workout today and I LOVE IT! Unfortunately I can’t find it on iTunes or Spotify, so if you happen to find it, please leave a comment or message me and let me know! I really want to add this to my running playlist while I train for the Colfax Half Marathon.

So here I am, freshly certified and fully exhausted. I’m excited to put what I’ve learned into practice so I will be ready to sub some classes and one day lead my own!

21 Day Fix Extreme – Sneak Peek!

Wowza! I just finished a craaaazy workout with Autumn Calabrese! I got a super special sneak peek at one of the 21 Day Fix Extreme workouts on Beachbody On Demand, and it isn’t even released yet! Plyo Fix Extreme is a killer, but it’s one of those workouts where you KNOW it’s going to give you amazingly hot legs. And a booty.

Available Monday, Feb 2, 2015!

Available Monday, Feb 2, 2015!

So the 21 Day Fix Extreme is very similar to the original 21DF workouts, but sort of cranked up a notch. The workouts are all only 30 minutes, and use a combination of light weights (5-10 lbs for most people) and cardio. Sometimes weighted cardio! Here are some shots from today’s Plyo Fix Extreme workout:

My sweet boyfriend works out with me. The couple that sweats together.... stinks together?

One legged squats are really not fun. My quads are sore already!

Sumo plie squats - not for the faint of heart.

Weighted skaters – these are cray! I need to get heaver weights for my arms though.

And if you want to see what this looks like in action, here’s a video of tuck jump burpees for you. Funny, for me this was one of the easiest moves of the whole workout! Influence from INSANITY MAX:30? I’m thinking YESSSS.

Here are those weighted skaters in action. Those were kinda fun. And if you’re wondering, yes, my socks do say “Hot Mess.” Those are my favorite pair – pick yours up from The Sox Box. They are awesome.

And a little ab work – these were called three-way squat thrusts or some mess like that. If you are a Shaun T or INSANITY fan, you’d know them as In and Out Ski Abs – basically. Starting in plank, jump your feet in, then out, then to the side, then back. Make sense?

Shaun T totally taught this move to Autumn. I just know it.

I haven’t completed any of the other workouts from this program, since Plyo Fix Extreme was just a sneak peek that I got from Beachbody On Demand (which, by the way, you will want to have…so make sure you have your Club Membership locked in before March gets here!). But here is some info on the rest of the program:

workouts DEETS

The workouts include:
Plyo Fix Extreme, Upper Fix Extreme, Lower Fix Extreme, Pilates Fix Extreme, Cardio Fix Extreme, Dirty 30 Fix Extreme  and Yoga Fix Extreme.

There will be a bonus workout that you get for ordering through a coach plus there is also additional workouts that you can purchase also. Power strength extreme and ABC Extreme.

Plyo Fix Extreme An explosive lower-body workout that uses jumping and resistance to torch calories and sculpt
muscles.
Upper Fix Extreme
By alternating opposing muscle groups, this no-rest upper-body workout will shred the chest, back,
shoulders, and arms.
Pilates Fix Extreme
Using a resistance band for every exercise, this intense mat workout works the entire body, placing
emphasis on the core.
Lower Fix Extreme
Glutes, quads, hamstrings, and calves will get stronger, leaner, and more defined with 30 minutes
of challenging resistance work.
Cardio Fix Extreme Combining weighted cardio moves with traditional metabolic training intervals keeps the heart rate
soaring.
Dirty 30 Extreme
Using only seven compound moves focusing on multiple body parts at a time, this workout will burn
extra calories while defining muscles. Get down and dirty, and get it done.
Yoga Fix Extreme A fast-paced flow yoga class, combining strength, balance, flexibility, and power.
Power Strength Extreme
Based on functional movement patterns, these nine total-body exercises will change the way the
body moves, increasing strength, endurance, and power.
ABC Extreme
A 30-minute workout that targets common problem areas by pushing abs, butt, and cardio to
the extreme. ¬†It’ll get that competition body ready for the stage.
The Fix Challenge Keep things interesting and burn off calories with this quick resistance workout!
  • The program is 21 days long!
  • Complete one 30 minute workout each day.
  • You do not need a lot of space to do this workout. ¬†A 6 square foot area is¬†enough.
  • Cross Trainers or aerobic shoes are¬†recommended (not running shoes).
Should I buy the program?
21¬†Day¬†Fix¬†EXTREME¬†is ideal for those with a dramatic short-term weight loss deadline–such as an upcoming vacation, photo shoot, or other big event. It’s an excellent next step for¬†21¬†Day¬†Fix¬†graduates ready for a new challenge or graduates of other¬†extreme¬†programs like P90X, Insanity, and FOCUS T25.

Fix¬†EXTREME¬†is also great for those who don’t have much weight to lose, but want to get shredded and see abs; those with a “no BS” attitude toward workouts and nutrition; or anyone who doesn’t want to count calories, weigh¬†their food, or follow complicated recipes.

I would not recommend the 21 Day Fix Extreme for a beginner. This is an advanced program.  Autumn has said this herself, so I would take her advice.  Make sure that you are able to do the original 21 Day Fix FIRST before moving to this program!

Nutrition Plan Deets

While the 21 Day Fix allowed for wine and chocolate and occasional cheats… the 21 Day Fix Extreme does not. ¬†It is 100% clean eating for these 21 days. ¬†You do have the option to eat out¬†at restaurants but you still have to follow the nutritional guidelines laid out. ¬†Here’s my mindset: You can do anything you put your mind to for 21 days.¬†I can say from my¬†experience with Focus T25 and currently with INSANITY MAX:30 that when I follow¬†the nutrition plan as prescribed,¬†I really got amazing results. If I don’t eat like I’m supposed to, I have minimal results.¬† It’s true that abs are made in the kitchen,¬†so make sure to take this part extremely serious.

You will get the nutrition guide and the 21 Day Fix portion controlled containers with your program purchase!

So, do you want to join me?

I am going to be hosting an exclusive¬†21 Day Fix Extreme TEST Group where I will be supporting you throughout the program, teaching you how to use¬†the nutrition plan, giving sample¬†meal plans, snack ideas, recipes, and tips. ¬†You will get¬†motivation and accountability right from me in a private¬†online group. ¬†Our plan¬†is to set realistic and achievable goals and commit¬†100% for 21 days to achieve the very best results! Are you ready to see your abs? I AM!! So contact me on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/amandasue80 or email me at amandaedenfield1@gmail.com and let’s get started! This program goes on sale Feb 2, and it may sell out! Don’t wait!

INSANITY MAX:30 Review

max30 review

So I’ve completed the first 3 weeks of INSANITY MAX:30 and I think I can say, hands down, this is my favorite program of all time. I’ve completed ChaLEAN Extreme, Focus T25, half of the original INSANITY, P90X3, 21 Day Fix, and parts of PiYo, P90, Les Mills Pump, and Body Beast…and I haven’t loved any of those programs as much as I love this one.

YOU VS. YOU
I am a competitive person, which I never really realized before. But with this program, you’re competing against yourself. You do the workout the best that you can, and when you start to lose form or need a break, that is your “max out” time. You take that break, write your time down, catch your breath, and get back in it to finish the workout.

Here’s the progression of our times for Cardio Challenge throughout month 1 — you’ll notice that we didn’t increase each week! But on the days that we maxed out sooner, we actually modified less. Pushing harder and maxing out earlier is ok because we get STRONGER!

Check out that hair.

Check out that hair.

BUT THAT’S INSANE!
Well, yeah. It kind of is. It’s Shaun T, so what do you expect? But I do have to disagree somewhat…even though it is INSANITY, and it IS pretty much a butt-kicking workout, every move is modified. You can do the entire program with zero-impact. So if you have bad knees, bad ankles, or can’t do one single push-up…you can STILL complete IM30. Don’t believe me? Here is a video of my friend, Allyson, and me doing all of the moves in Cardio Challenge. I am doing the full range of motion with each move. She (on your left) is doing the modifications.

**caution – there is music, so turn down your speakers if you’re in a library…or church**

DOES IT WORK?
Well, I haven’t finished the program yet, so I can’t give you specific stats on how well it is working for me yet as far as weight loss and looking hot. Check back at the end of February for that post. But I can tell you that my fitness has greatly improved. I am doing more pushups than I was in the beginning, more jumping jacks (yes, I have even had to modify some of the jacks because my calves burn!), and I am able to push harder for longer amounts of time before I have to modify. That tells me it is WORKING. I doubt I have dropped a significant amount of weight, but that is no fault of this program. It uses the same containers and a similar nutrition plan as the 21 Day Fix (which is awesome, and you can see my results here if you missed them). My problem is I have let work stress and life get in the way, and I haven’t followed my meal plans as closely as I would have liked. Boo. But this isn’t a diet. There’s no finish line. This is a lifestyle, and I’m not beating myself up because I got off track. I still have a month left to finish this program and I’m ready to get back in it! Besides…how could I quit when I know this cutie is watching me? ūüėČ

My 5yo finished all 30 min of Tabata Power. If he can do it, YOU can do it.

My 5yo finished all 30 min of Tabata Power. If he can do it, YOU can do it.

OK, SO HOW DO I GET IN ON THIS AWESOMENESS?
Well first, you need to have a coach. Yes, you do. A coach will be able to give you the support you need to finish the program, help you with meal planning, and give you tips on modifications if you need them. If you don’t already have a coach, I would love to be yours! You can add me as your coach just by going to bit.ly/CoachKauf and get your free account.

If you’re ready to jump on the INSANITY MAX:30 train, you can go here to get your kit.¬†http://bit.ly/KaufycupIM30CP ¬†Then I will be in touch with you to get you set up with your program. Let’s MAX OUT together!

I’m Still Here!

Wow, it has been over a month since my last blog! Oops. I promise I haven’t disappeared! I’ve just been so incredibly busy that I haven’t been able to even focus on writing. I’ve wanted to blog…but I guess you could say I had writer’s block. I dunno.

anybody home

Anyway, I’m here now! And I have LOTS of ideas to write about, so I plan to get back into it! A little about what’s been going on with me…

  • I’ve been studying CONSTANTLY for my personal training certification through National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). There is so much information to learn about the body and the science of fitness, and it takes a lot of time and energy to remember it all! I will be spending 75% of my time this week studying and re-studying. Is that a word? I might have just made that one up.
  • I also recently became a certified instructor for PiYo Strength, which is super cool! If you haven’t heard of PiYo Strength classes, you may want to check out this video and then see if any classes are offered in your area! I am fine-tuning my skills and ability to teach this class live, and will be offering it in my city within the next month. I’m pumped about that, which is great because I have people patiently waiting for the class to open!

Here’s my pretty little certificate showing that I passed the course. ūüôā

PiYo Strength Certificate photo

  • I also started getting my feet wet with leading fitness classes at my new favorite gym. My instructor has been very helpful and has let me assist her with calling out reps and demonstrating the moves during our workouts. It has pushed me to work myself even harder, and I’m loving the opportunity to learn all I can from her! Hopefully I can help her offer more classes in the future, when I’m not so busy with teaching.

Which leads me to another thing…teaching. I’m both happy and sad to say that this may be the last year I teach special education. I’ve enjoyed teaching for 11 years now, but with my husband’s career and our kids getting into more activities as they get older, we think it may be best for me to put teaching aside – at least for a while. So this next year, I will not be returning as a special ed teacher. No more full days in the classroom. Instead, I will be doing a little part-time work at my kids’ school, and the rest of my time will be spent coaching and training. I love fitness so much, why not make it my job?!! ūüôā This will also give me a lot more time with my family, without coming home from work exhausted and grumpy. That’s never fun.

What is fun is that I will be able to have time helping more of YOU reach your fitness and nutrition goals! I can’t wait to get my personal training certification and start teaching classes regularly. In the meantime, feel free to message me here or on Facebook if you have questions about anything!

Exclusive P90X3 Test Group!!

Happy Friday! I hope everyone is staying warm today. We have a snow day here (yay no school!), so it has been a morning full of snuggles…and yes, I’m still in my pajamas! I’m not feeling at all bad about it though; my muscles are sore from yesterday’s workout, and besides, we all deserve a “snow day” with our exercise routines once in a while, right?

But I am here to talk to you about something that I am extremely excited about. It’s HUGE.

P90X3 Get Ripped! with bephoenixfit.wordpress.com

P90X3 is being released on TUESDAY, December 10th!! That’s in 4 days! It’s like Christmas is coming early for me this year! Only I’m not going to start working out with this program right away, as much as I’d like to. I’m going to wait until my EXCLUSIVE test group starts up on January 6th. Why? I’ll tell you.

The latest Beachbody program, Focus T25, came out in July. I was still very much in the beginning of my transformation, and had a lot of work to do with my body. I got that program because workouts were only 25 minutes. And for me, that is completely doable. I couldn’t pass it up, especially when I was about to start back teaching full time. I started a T25 test group with a small number of women (and one husband), and we stuck together for the entire program. We drank our Shakeology, followed the nutrition plan that was included, and did our workouts. No excuses. In just 10 weeks, I had amazing results. I actually didn’t even really lose weight, but my body CHANGED.

Slide2You can read more about that program here. But because of my results that I got with T25, I am CRAZY excited to start P90X3! Again, you probably ask why. Why this program? Because the workouts are ONLY 30 MINUTES. That’s nothing. There’s a quick warmup, and then you work your body like mad for the remainder of the time. Then you’re done and on with your day. Boom. And honestly, I love love love weights/strength training. Strength training is what makes your metabolism skyrocket, which burns the heck out of your fat and gets you lean and toned. Not bulky, unless you’re a guy.

P90X3-Results with bephoenixfit.wordpress.com

So, when can I actually purchase P90X3?

December 10, 2013. Four days from TODAY! When you purchase there are two options:

Option #1¬†– Purchase a P90X3 Challenge Pack. The price of the P90X3 challenge pack is discounted from Dec. 10-31. Instead of being $205, it’s starting out at $180! In the Challenge Pack you get the 90 day workout program, the nutrition guide, the program manual, workout schedule, a month supply of Shakeology, a free 30 day trial of the club membership, and free shipping for the month of December. If you add up all the savings with the Challenge Pack, it’s a savings of over $125! See those people in the picture above? They did the entire P90X3 program AND drank Shakeology. Like their results?

Option #2 РPurchase the P90X3 program alone. The cost is $119.00 and you will pay another $15 or so in shipping.

With either option, you will need weights and/or bands and a pull-up bar. I plan to use a resistance band and wrap it around my stair rail. I’m crafty like that. (Not really crafty, I took that idea from a friend lol.)

If you would like to be notified when you can officially purchase P90X3, please go to¬†my site¬†(in the top right hand corner of this page) and create a¬†FREE¬†account. You will receive an email from me the minute that the program is released! And if you really want it, you aren’t going to want to wait. It’s going to sell out FAST!

So, here’s the most exciting news! I have decided to run an¬†EXCLUSIVE P90X3 TEST GROUP!¬†This is not your normal challenge group. Everyone in this group will be working out to P90X3. We will be working our tails off so that we can get amazing results to be used like the pictures below! It’s only gonna take 90 days.
As your coach, I will add you to our closed Facebook P90X3 Test Group. There, we will go through the nutrition guide and workouts together. We will check in DAILY and post our progress. Yes, you will have to take before pictures. I know those are hard to take. But I promise the after pics will be 100% worth it!
Our group is going to start on December 30, 2013 with our workouts starting on January 6, 2014. We will finish the program on April 6, 2014. That is exactly 90 days after we start! You will be beach ready before the bathing suits are in stores!

Quick and Easy Home Workout

Hey everybody! Things are busy busy busy around here, finishing up some MAJOR home projects as well as getting ready for school to start. Work begins for me tomorrow, but I wanted to pop in and post this!

Last weekend, I made my first ever workout video. It’s completely amateur, and there isn’t much to it, but I wanted to be able to give you guys a quick 5 minute workout that you can do at home. Some of my followers don’t go to the gym or don’t have an exercise plan, or maybe just aren’t sure where to start. Hopefully the workouts are pretty universal, although they may either be too easy or too difficult for some.

Here is this week’s workout, the second video in this series. (Excuse the poor videography – that’s my child assisting me, haha.) All of these moves were taken from or inspired by the Alpha phase of Focus T25 by Shaun T.

And if you want to see last week’s video that I forgot to post, here it is.

I will be posting new videos each weekend, so be sure to subscribe and check back! You can follow me on Youtube if you like, and if you want to join our FREE workout group on Facebook, click here and request to join!  https://www.facebook.com/groups/134197333417996/

Shameless Brag – Abs!!

Spontaneous post because I have to brag! I was so excited this morning when I saw my ABS!!! I was drying my hair and looked in the mirror and saw LINES in my tummy area! And not the horizontal lines I’m used to. There is the beginning of ab definition and I can’t wait to uncover more!

I leaned sideways to get under my hair and my obliques told me hello! So stinking exciting!

20130730-065945.jpg

This is my stomach right now. After one round of ChaLEAN Extreme and two full weeks of T25, plus lots of clean eating and dedication, I’m seeing progress! Yes there are stomachs out there better than mine, but I’m not comparing to them. I’m comparing to my OWN body! And this is one I’ve never had before. Still a little squish in the muffin area and on top of that soon-to-be six pack, but I’m ok with that! I’m not embarrassed to wear a snug fitting shirt today because I’m happy with my body. But definitely not done! I’m going to see just what this 33 year old body is capable of!

August Challenge Groups – Coming Up!

Image

Can you believe summer is almost over?!! I start working again in just a little over 2 weeks, and it doesn’t even seem like it’s possible for that time to be here again. This summer has been great though, and I have definitely enjoyed it.

But just because the hot weather will be coming to a close doesn’t mean it’s time to forget about that beach-ready body! I am currently in week 2 of my own personal challenge group for testing out the new Focus T25 program, and I am loving it! Even if it means waking up at 5:00 AM during the school year just to get in my workout, I’m going to make it happen. My students are going to appreciate the energy I have because of it.

Image

I can’t keep all this fitness goodness to myself though! It’s time for some NEW challenge groups for the new month! And I have three options for you:

1. 30 day Clean Eating & Shakeology Support Group (Aug. 5)
2. 60 day Challenge Group (Aug. 5)
3. 7 day Shakeology Cleanse (Aug. 12)

Here are the deets:

30 Day Clean Eating & Shakeology Support Group¬†– This group is a 30 day online accountability group (closed so it’s completely private) starting August 5th. I will teach you the basics of clean eating. My goals in this group are to (1) teach you how to effectively fuel your body so that food is no longer the enemy and (2) teach you what foods to pair together to keep your body working at its maximum performance.¬†

During this 4 week group, you will create 4 customized meal plans of your own. You will learn about good vs bad choices. You will learn how to handle social situations. You will feel more confident making good choices when out to eat at restaurants. You will learn how to make this a LIFESTYLE and not a diet.

The cost of this program is only the cost of Shakeology. Shakeology is a requirement because while we are trying to figure out good vs bad choices, what and when to eat, it’s important to have one meal a day that you don’t have to think about. Shakeology is one meal that will fuel your body for the rest of the day with vitamins, nutrients, and whole foods, and the best part is that you don’t even have to think about it. Just blend it up and drink up! It’s so easy!

60 Day Challenge Group¬†– This group is my absolute favorite to run and we are starting on August 5th! 60 days is the PERFECT amount of time to see amazing results but it’s also not too long that you get bored. We will start by determining your WHY or the reason that you want to do this group. For me, it was so that I could get my life back and be a healthy role model for my children. We take your end goal and break it down into 15, 30 and 45 day goals. We will take progress pics and measurements on day 1, 30, and 60. No one EVER has to see these pics. They are for tracking progress because your scale is a dirty liar ūüėČ We will also talk about clean eating and meal planning.

You don’t have to be near me to participate in this group. You can live anywhere in the United States or Canada because it is also a closed Facebook group. There are small daily assignments designed to motivate you and help you keep going with your workouts and clean eating. Success is DIRECTLY related to participation in the group. Trust me, I am living proof!¬†

For this group, I will help you choose a Beachbody fitness program that best meets your needs and you will also be required to replace one meal a day with Shakeology for the duration of the challenge. After that, you can make the decision whether or not to continue. This group is very limited and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.

*Just a side note before I explain the last group*

The newest Beachbody program, Focus T25, is on special until the end of July. Purchase the T25 Challenge Pack from me and you will get a reduced price. It’s over $90 in savings! Not to mention it is currently my FAVORITE workout program from Beachbody.¬†

7 Day Shakeology Challenge РThis group is an awesome introduction to Shakeology, clean eating, and meal planning. You will purchase 7 individual Shakeology packets from me and in return, you will be placed into a closed Facebook group. In that group, you will have a meal plan laid out for you, you will replace one meal a day with Shakeology, and pledge to workout in some way, shape, or form for 30 minutes each day. This is a great way to see if a September Challenge Group might be good for you.
